The purpose of Freemasonry is to be a builder of character. Our Masonic duty is to develop in our present lives the highest qualities within us.
To reach this objective, we must have knowledge of the goal and the pathway by which it may be obtained.
The time honored method of teaching in our Fraternity is through a system of degrees, through which a fuller understanding of Masonic concepts is developed.
You Are Invited
We cordially invite you to extend your Masonic education by joining us in Cryptic Freemasonry – The Council of Royal and Select Master Masons.
In order to receive the degrees of Royal and Select Master Mason,
you must first have received the Royal Arch Masons Degree.
If you are not yet a Royal Arch Mason, we will be happy to assist you in joining a Chapter of Royal Arch Masons.

Why Should I Join?
The Symbolic Lodge is the first of the four Masonic Bodies in the Your Rite of Freemasonry. Unfortunately, many never receive the other York Rite Degrees due to a lack of knowledge or guidance. Their knowledge of Freemasonry remains incomplete.
Let us assume that the York Rite of Freemasonry is a book of twelve chapters. The York Rite consists of nine Degrees and three Orders. If you were reading a book, would you discard it after reading the first three chapters? By joining a Council of Royal and Select Master Masons you are progressing through the book of Your Rite Freemasonry. (Click here for a description of the degrees.)

Joppa Council No. 46, founded in 1906, has an enduring tradition of leadership and fellowship among its members.
Joppa Council No. 46 is a Platinum Sponsor of the
Special Olympics.Joppa Council No. 46 is the only Council of Royal & Select Master Masons currently meeting at the Masonic Temple at One North Broad Street in Philadelphia, PA.
Joppa Council No. 46 meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM in Oriental Hall. Annual dues are $20 and the initiation fee is $30.
